¡¡Mis corazoncitos!! I will miss you! [email protected]
In our Spanish class, we are resilient, persistent and reflective in our communication. We are creative Lovett learners.
¡Feliz día de las madres! Practica la canción. Vamos a usar las imágenes en clase.
Questions-Preguntas-Questions-Preguntas
Our work on the interrogatives, or "question words," allows students to not only TELL in Spanish, but also ask, answer and explain in the target language. Now, students can ask "¿Quién tiene un marcador azul?" when they need a blue marker, and "¿Cuándo es la clase?" if they are unsure about our start time. See below!
¡Brr-- Hace frío!!
Miren el video sobre las estaciones. This video tells you all about the seasons and how the weather changes throughout the year. Come back to school and tell me what you learned! |

¡Feliz año nuevo!

Take a look at Lauren's new traditions:
In Spanish speaking countries, some people put a gold ring in the bottom of their champagne glass for good luck in the coming year!
One custom is to fill up a cup or bucket with water and toss it onto the front yard or out the window. This means that you will have fewer tears in the upcoming year!
2015 is going to be a happy year! |
Got a suitcase? When the clock strikes 12:00, have it ready to take it for a spin around the house. It might bring you adventure and travel in 2015!
Got a stuffed animal collection? Get your LAMB. Put it by your front door on New Year's Eve. It's good luck! Yep-- the wool that comes from lambs and sheep is called "lana." A funny slang word for money in Spanish is also lana. So you can imagine the $ your little lamb might bring!

Escoba = broom
Grab the house escoba to use at the stroke of midnight! Go to the entrance of your home, and "sweep out" 2014 and bring in 2015! Yes, it will look funny. Bring us a picture to school!!! Don't forget to throw your escoba onto the front lawn when you're done (tell your parents you'll pick it up in the morning-- it's una tradición! |
From El Gaucho to La Veterinaria: What do professionals "do?"

El mercado: a project combining efforts of 2nd and 3rd grade Spanish students
We created a fruit and vegetable Spanish market! Second graders were sellers and third graders were the shoppers. This not only provided an opportunity for 2nd graders to practice their learned vocabulary on the fruits and vegetables, their properties, and cost, but allowed 3rd graders to use their math skills to stay within a budget using dollars and cents in the target language. Third graders recycled their vocabulary from last year, using their budding skills around the interrogatives, or the "question words." Students used time in the InGen studio, as well as a "design thinking" approach to the development of our project. They designed their own money, wallets, and logos as well. The students decided to donate the perishables we use to The Garden, on Atlanta Road.
We even enjoyed the Upper School percussionists' live accompaniment to our original "Verduras" song!

What fun!
Students used iPads to record their preposition study. Using the parts of the classroom and our homemade "muñecos," we placed them in funny spots in the class. On, under, inside, behind, and other prepositions were our focus for this day.

What's in a "noun," anyway?
Spanish students know: people, things, places and ideas. The most interesting part to consider are ideas. Please take a look at the examples from class!

Get ready to see Migbelis this fall at the Miss Universe pageant, 2014!
¡¡¡Vamos, Venezuela!!!!
¡¡¡Vamos, Venezuela!!!!
Migbelis Castellanos, the reigning Miss Venezuela, came to visit us last Spring, thanks to our classmate, Sibyl! Spanish students interviewed her with many good questions. Señora Fonseca's favorite quote? When asked "when did you start to model?" Miss Venezuela said (translated), "I was very young, like you. I looked just like you, and I knew I was beautiful. I wore my hair like you (points). My smile looked like yours (points again). Look at you: you are all models. Now, if you want to be a professional model, it takes work. You have to study hard, starting now, and all the way through Middle School, High School and then College. You have to stay focused on your goals."
Good luck at Miss Universe!! We will be watching from Atlanta!!
Can anyone say "viewing party?"
